Europeans have always their advantages over the US. Affordable healthcare and education, better food standards, good public transportation, adaptive headlights, etc. However, that last one won’t last for long. This November, President Biden signed a new infrastructure bill that targeted most of the usual — funding for roads, bridges, highways — and a forbidden fruit: adaptive headlights.
Adaptive headlights, or matrix headlights, refer to headlights consisting of a set of many LED lights that adapt to its surroundings. By turning off certain lights, adaptive headlights can precisely illuminate certain parts of the road, preventing you from blinding oncoming drivers. This is different from existing automatic high-beams, which completely shut off when nearing other vehicles.
However, an archaic law from 1967 has mandated separate high and low-beams, barring this tech from reaching our shores. Thankfully, the new law defines adaptive headlights, although its currently been sent to the secretary to transportation who has 2 years to fully approve of it. What do you think, will it make it to the market? Would you be interested in buying a car with them? Let us know!
